Tulio Sulbaran, Ph.D.

Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Construction Management

Dr. Tulio Sulbaran, a distinguished faculty member at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), is a dedicated educator and industry professional who has made significant contributions to the field of construction education.

 

With his expertise and commitment to excellence, Sulbaran has played a vital role in shaping the future of the construction industry.





As a faculty member at UTSA, Dr. Tulio Sulbaran has made a lasting impact on his students and the construction community through his teaching and research endeavors.  His current courses at UTSA on project management and construction capstone have equipped countless students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the industry.

 

Beyond his academic contributions, Dr. Sulbaran maintains strong industry connections and collaborates with construction companies to bring real-world experiences to his students.He believes that collaboration between academia and industry is crucial for the success of our construction students.


“By fostering strong partnerships, we provide students with real-world experiences and insights, preparing them to be industry-ready and ensuring they can contribute effectively to the construction companies”- Dr. Sulbaran.

Each semester, he takes his students to job sites, hosts industry speakers in his classes, and involves panels of construction professionals to evaluate final projects. Dr. Sulbaran wants to “express his heartfelt thanks to UTSA,  the AGC Education and Research Foundation and Bartlett Cocke for making it possible for him to participate in the industry residency program. This experience enriches my knowledge, which I am excited to bring back to the classroom to benefit my students."

Sulbaran's research focuses on data-driven decision-making and innovative construction technologies. His work has been published in multiple academic journals and presented at national and international conferences. By exploring new approaches to decision-making and innovative technologies, he is actively shaping the future of the construction industry.  Furthermore, Sulbaran also engages in research and publications related to construction education, further advancing the understanding and practice of construction education.

Tulio Sulbaran is actively involved in the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) in several ways. Dr. Sulbaran serves as a member of the ACCE accreditation team, which involves evaluating construction education programs at various universities to ensure they meet the organization's rigorous standards. He is also a member of multiple ACCE Committees helping maintain and enhance the quality of construction education programs across the United States.


Tulio Sulbaran's passion and commitment to shaping the future of the construction industry is unwavering. Dr. Sulbaran helped the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) create at Lanier High School the Construction Science P-Tech that focuses on preparing students with the necessary skills, certifications, and industry-specific training to meet the demands of the industry.  

“Dr. Tulio Sulbaran is a committed leader, mentor, and advocate within the Lanier High School Construction PTECH program. With a passion for the Construction industry, he has positively impacted hundreds of students, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Dr. Sulbaran also assisted Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) develop an associate degree in Construction Management that prepares its graduates to work in all phases of the construction business
