The Roofing Alliance

The Foundation for the Industry

Bill Good is a notable professional within the roofing and construction education sectors, recognized for his unwavering commitment to enhancing industry standards and promoting educational excellence. He serves as an influential member of the National Roofing Alliance, where he works diligently to support roofing contractors and advance the interests of the roofing industry on a national level.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Good had more than 30 years of experience as the CEO of National Roofing Contractors Association in Rosemont, Il. Most recently, he served as Executive in Residence at the Baker School of Business at The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, in Charleston.

Mr. Good has served on the following Boards: American Society of Association Executives, Association Forum of Chicagoland; Chicago Christian Industrial League; Rebuilding Together; American Council for Construction Education; National Chamber Foundation; and Institute for Organization Management, part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He received his B.A. from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.

Residing in Johns Island, South Carolina, Bill has cultivated a deep understanding of the regional construction landscape. His expertise is further amplified through his active involvement with the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). In this role, he is dedicated to fostering high-quality educational programs that prepare students for successful careers in construction. He was instrumental in developing the Construction Workforce Education committee dedicated to the accreditation of apprenticeship and workforce degree programs. His contributions help ensure that academic standards align with industry needs, promoting a well-trained workforce ready to tackle the challenges of modern construction.

Bill’s passion for education and professional development is evident in his advocacy for continuous learning within the construction sector. He believes that investing in education is crucial for the advancement of the industry and the success of its professionals.

When Bill was at NRCA, he created The Roofing Alliance, a 501 C3 charitable organization supported by members of the roofing industry. This entity desired to establish a relationship with schools of construction management, which led to their involvement with ACCE. It also resulted in offering grants, scholarships, faculty retreats, and an annual student competition. Through Alliance funding, they have been able to develop three courses that are for three semester credit hours each on roofing, available in a digital format at no cost to all ACCE-member institutions. Five years ago, there were zero roofing classes being offered; today, there are roofing classes available in at least seven Construction Management programs.

Under Bill’s leadership, The Roofing Alliance also established a partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities in 2017, whereby they maintain the roofs of the 166 free-standing Ronald McDonald houses in the U.S.  They have provided, donated, or discounted new roofs to about 20 houses over the seven years of the partnership.

Additionally, when Bill was at NRCA, he led the effort to restore and replace the portions of the roof of the Pentagon that were damaged during the terrorist attacks of 9/11. He organized donations for the project, including labor from NRCA members from all over the country. The roof was completed ahead of schedule, and NRCA received a unanimous commendation from the US House of Representatives.

In summary, Bill Good's career is characterized by his leadership roles in the National Roofing Alliance and the American Council for Construction Education, as well as his entrepreneurial ventures through William Good Consulting LLC.  His efforts to elevate industry standards and promote educational opportunities continue to make a significant impact in the roofing and construction sectors, ensuring a brighter future for the profession.
